Many people are amazed that children can have acupuncture. Here are Queanbeyan Acupuncture we provide options and tailor to each individual, and day, and mood. Hey they’re kids… Dynamic, assertive and well, do I need to say more? They are kids!
Shonishin is a non-penetrative technique developed by the Japanese, specifically for children of all ages. It can be used on the adults too. A flat nail looking tool is used (pictured) over the body to do what needs to be done. It is very gentle and very quick.
Needles may be used with children. Treatments are much shorter than those for adults, dependent on the age of the child. For babies, needling is pretty much an in/out action. Very quick and most bubs don’t even realise what has happened. This is the joy of working with such fine needles. 5 year olds, may need to have needles in for a few minutes, and 10 year olds longer.
Having 2 children myself, I understand that children move their goalposts VERY regularly. What is ok 1 minute is not the next. I have learnt to adapt to how a child presents and communicate what needs to be done and why. Those that are verbal can negotiate as needed. I will work within the child’s comfort zone.
Older children, tweens and teens may find acupuncture also beneficial.
